英語構文を学ぼう～「～するとすぐに」～

みなさん、こんにちは。

今日は「～するとすぐに」という表現をおさえていきましょう。

①"As soon as I came into contact with him, I determined to get to know him well."
②"On coming into contact with him, I determined to get to know him well."
③"I had no sooner come into contact with him than I determined to get to know him well."
④"No sooner had I come into contact with him than I determined to get to know him well."
⑤"I had hardly(scarcely) come into contact with him when(before) I determined to get to know him well."
⑥"Hardly(Scarcely) had I come into contact with him when(before) I determined to get to know him well."
⑦"The minute(The moment/ The instant) (that) I came into contact with him, I determined to get to know him well."
⑧"Directly(Instantly/ Immediately) I came into contact with him, I determined to get to know him well."

全て「彼と会うようになってすぐに、彼のことをよく知ることが出来たらと心に決めた」という意味です。


①は定番ですね。①の書き換えで②の「on・～ing」がよく出てきます。
③の「過去完了＋no・sooner～・than・過去形」と、その倒置形（否定語が文頭にくると、疑問文の語順）の④。そして、⑤の「過去完了＋hardly（scarcely）～・when（before）・過去形」と、その倒置形の⑥も暗記事項ですね。
さらに、「瞬間や即座」という単語を使って⑦・⑧の言い方もあります。
大学入試レベルの文法問題や和訳問題で必須なのでおさえておきましょう。
